The malaria free Amakhala Game Reserve offers 3 to 5 star accommodation and bush houses in Safari Lodges, Country Houses, restored Settler Farmhouses and authentic tented camps located between the Greater Addo and Frontier Country area in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

The malaria free Amakhala Game Reserve offers a range of morning and evening safaris and other activities to enable our guests to experience the fascinating flora, fauna and birdlife of the Eastern Cape. This is your opportunity to return to nature.
Go on game drives in an open Land Rover in search of our wildlife - lion, black & white rhino, elephant, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, black wildebeest, zebra, tortoise and over 16 antelope species - or take a night drive with cheese and wine sundowners before searching for elusive nocturnal animals such as lynx, porcupine and spring hare.
Luxury accommodation is offered in our four and five star lodges and bush houses: Bush Lodge, Leeuwenbosch, Reed Valley Inn, The Safari Lodge, Woodbury Lodge and Carnarvon Dale. Amakhala Game Reserve has been awarded the voluntary label by Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA).

The intimate thatched Amakhala Safari lodge with its unique air-conditioned safari huts offers 5 star accommodation and is an undisturbed retreat where you can regenerate your soul and tune into the sounds of nature.
Bush Lodge
Situated in the bush, at the top end of an open valley in the reserve, Bush Lodge's luxury tents overlook a watering point with big sky views. Each suite has a secluded private viewing deck with intimate plunge pool. These smart bush houses are amongst the newest ones built on the reserve.
Leeuwenbosch
The Country House on Leeuwenbosch caters for the whole family. We offer two family suites, baby sitting services and a children’s programme.
Shearer’s Lodge has been beautifully converted into four luxury en-suite rooms, three twins and one really special honeymoon suite and surrounded by indigenous gardens.

Woodbury Lodge
Guests are accommodated in 6 comfortably appointed stone-and-thatch sleeping lodges, each with air-conditioning and en-suite bathroom.
The seclusion of the lodges and the design of the bathrooms and private decks enable our visitors to enjoy the unique and breathtaking views at their leisure.
Carnarvon Dale
This consists of the 1820 Settler farmhouse, the Bottom House, and an elegantly restored early Edwardian cottage, the Top House. On offer is a choice of en-suite serviced bedrooms meeting three star grading requirements. A family suite is available on request. A sparkling swimming pool set in large gardens offer complete relaxation and peace.
Quatermain’s Camp - an authentic tented camp
This classic 1920’s style expedition camp is modelled on the heyday of exploration, that golden era when adventure lay around every corner. Our intimate tented camp offers you the opportunity to experience “Africa under canvas”, with crisp white 1900’s style safari tents fitted out with military campaign style furnishings; the choice of pioneers, hunters and explorers of that time.
Relax in the centralised boma area where local delicacies are prepared in front of you on an open fire, and dinner is served under a blanket of stars.
Every effort has been made to stay true to the expedition style, with concessions only being allowed for rustic bathrooms with modern conveniences.
